Film's Cool Workshop; Editing!

In today's Film's Cool, we had a masterclass session with Kate Coggins, a film editor who has worked for many productions companies including Vertigo Films and edited the 'Tower Block' (2012) and Simon Brasse who was the editor for E4's 'Skins' and current editor for the BBC's 'Holby City'.

We spoken to Simon Brasse and he gave us very useful advice for our trailer and suggested some brilliant ideas to make more thrilling. I would say this is was the most beneficial session we had with Film's Cool because we were unsure whether our was good based on the script and our filming which worried us and with the advice Simon gave we feel at ease because we now know what we can do to make it better.

It was an amazing experience, thank you very much!

Researching Film Posters

I have been researching various types of horror movie magazines and I have analysed three magazines; Empire and two versions of Entertainment Weekly.

Here is cover for 'Hannibal' from an old Empire magazine. The cover is dark and mysterious, as only half of the characters face is shown. The character looks evil and he is looking directly at us giving the cover image a striking scary edge. The red eye is a very bold and noticeable colour on the cover, this matches the red in the main title and the mastheads - it is very un natural and surreal and represents the characters evil nature and thirst for blood.
The quote 'What's cooking' relates to the film and has a very adverse sound to it. It is written in bold white font so it contrasts with the black background making it stand out more. The content of the magazine in this issue is mainly focused on the theme of horror and relates to the film that is being promoted.  At the top of the magazine cover, we see in bold yellow colour another article presented, the use of the bold yellow separates it from the rest of the page. Overall I think that the magazine promotes the film very well as even the content of the magazine relates to the film, the main focus is on the film and this is reflected through the strong, striking, sinister image and the colour scheme.

Creating Horror Magazine Cover

I have started creating a front cover of a horror magazine promoting our trailer.

Film's Cool with Brendan Nelson

We had a Digital Strategy Session with Brendan Nelson from Tobias & Tobias. During the sessions we discussed what 'digital strategy' exactly means since no one fully understood what it means and how it's relevant for business and film production.

Make Up

Here are some images of the make Up done by myself on Ellie. We used food colouring (red, black, lilac), water and golden syrup to create fake blood.
