Horror Movie Killers

We were looking at the stereotypical 'killer' in a horror film and looking at how they are conveyed through how they are dressed, masks/ deformities/ mutations etc. We looked at different killers and then had to annotate around them to see what similarities and differences they had. This has helped me as I can see how successful horror films have created their killer and can now use the conventions to make my own and make the killer fit in with convention.

Killer 1; from 'Scary Movie'

We see that the killer is holding a knife. This is commonly used as a weapon in a horror movie. Makes it scarier as knives are things  everyone has at home and aren't scary but in hands of the wrong people, they become weapons.
Killer wearing gloves to stop fingerprints so people cannot trak the killer.
As shown in the picture the killer is wearing a mask to his/hers identity. Mask is related to the movie title 'Scream' mask is of a screaming face. The masks does not give us any clues to who the killer might be.
All black outifits can help hide more the identity of the killer because you can't identify if it's a male or female. No clues as to who it can be.

Killer 2; 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre'

We see that the killer is using a chainsaw as his weapon. It is the weapon that is commonly used in the movie and the weapon links to the title of the movie.
Again, the killer is using a mask to hide his identity or maybe a deformaty he may have on his face.
The killer is wearing an everyday male suit, this suggests maybe he is or he was just normal person at one point but something has maybe happend and he has changed.

Killer 3; from 'Friday 13th'

Here again, the killer is wearing a mask. The mask is to hide the characters identity - this has become an icon and everyone recognises it. The killers weapon is a type of sword/large knife. Killers weapon is always on the killers, it is part of the characters identity.
The killer is wearing dirty,ripped/torn clothes which may suggest he has had a hard life and he is probably isolated from society or maybe it has part of his 'mask' to hide his identity.

Killer 3; from 'Saw' franchise

In some cases like the 'Saw' franchise, the killer is hidden behind some sort of doll. In Saw everyone can see the puppet instead of the real killer. The mask/puppet always covers the killers identity leaving audience suspicious. The puppet also has a fake name of 'Jigsaw'
The killer always covers his identity by hiding his/hers voice with effects.
